The common was once kept as a rabbit warren by monks living here – rabbits were a valuable food source. Today you are more likely to see longhorn cattle, dog walkers and the occasional horse rider. The common is an important heathland and walkers can join the common at several parking points, or walk out along the Worcester Road, to join the common near to the Old Rose and Crown. Hillditch Pool is a great spot to watch dragonflies in the summer months, and the footpath along the edge of the pool climbs to join Hillditch Lane and back into the village of Hartlebury, with the County Museum.
